Francis is an incredibly personable, professional, and informative instructor. He helped me hone my speaking voice for performing spoken word poetry, and offered really tailored, constructive feedback along the way. I’m so glad that I committed to taking speaking lessons. The entire process has been positive.
Picks come in many shapes and sizes. Picks vary from the small jazz pick to the large bass pick. The thickness of the pick often determines its use. A thinner pick (between 0.2 and 0.5 mm) is usually used for strumming or rhythm playing, whereas thicker picks (between 0.7 and 1.5+ mm) are usually used for single-note lines or lead playing. The distinctive guitar sound of Billy Gibbons is attributed to using a quarter or peso as a pick. Similarly, Brian May is known to use a sixpence coin as a pick, while noted 1970s and early 1980s session musician David Persons is known for using old credit cards, cut to the correct size, as plectrums.
In her imaginary soundtrack to a science fiction western, Marisa Anderson layers acoustic and electric guitars, lap steel, pedal steel, electric piano and percussion into a celestial twang. Even with a manufactured ensemble at her disposal, there is a loneliness to Into The Light that comes from solitude in the midst of strangers, heard in the low and slow musical screenwriting that becomes increasingly more distant as the album rides into the sunset.
I am a composer from Norway and I started this channel with a simple vision: to create a place that you can visit in order to chill out & relax. I compose music that can be labeled as for example: sleep music, calm music, yoga music, study music, peaceful music, beautiful music and relaxing music. I love to compose music and I put a lot of work into it.

On almost all modern electric guitars, the bridge has saddles that are adjustable for each string so that intonation stays correct up and down the neck. If the open string is in tune, but sharp or flat when frets are pressed, the bridge saddle position can be adjusted with a screwdriver or hex key to remedy the problem. In general, flat notes are corrected by moving the saddle forward and sharp notes by moving it backwards. On an instrument correctly adjusted for intonation, the actual length of each string from the nut to the bridge saddle is slightly, but measurably longer than the scale length of the instrument. This additional length is called compensation, which flattens all notes a bit to compensate for the sharping of all fretted notes caused by stretching the string during fretting.
In this live guitar lesson, we’ll be joined by Nate Savage to talk about guitar tuning. If you have a question you’d like answered, please click on the “QUESTIONS” tab above and submit your questio…

Many of you know San Diego for its beautiful beaches, great weather, Sea World and the zoo, but did you know that San Diego is home to a great many guitarists? As a new resident of San Diego, I recently realized the amount of talent present in this great city. Wherever you go, you can always hear the unmistakable sound of the guitar, whether it’s the strumming of an acoustic on the beaches of La Jolla, some blues licks played on a Les Paul in a downtown club, or the plucking of a classical in the streets of North Park, there’s always something exciting to hear from this great instrument. Many great guitarists, local and non-local, perform and have honed their skills in San Diego and the surrounding areas. Local jazz legend Peter Sprague can be caught playing almost nightly, and Carlos Santana learned to play on the streets of nearby Tijuana. Bands such as Blink 182, Switchfoot, and P.O.D. have all called San Diego home, and local talent such as Intransit Audio, Foreign Film, and Science Fiction are making their names and building followings in the bustling local music scene.

My teaching approach: I think that the best way to become good at something is to understand the theory underlying it. Besides teaching technique, we will also study music theory. I will not just be using guitar to explain it either; we will use keyboard, wind instruments, and other stringed instruments as well to develop a deeper understanding of what goes on when you play. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher’s studio or the student’s home Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: I live and teach in Lafayette and the surrounding cities. Many scordatura (alternate tunings) modify the standard tuning of the lute, especially when playing Renaissance music repertoire originally written for that instrument. Some scordatura drop the pitch of one or more strings, giving access to new lower notes. Some scordatura make it easier to play in unusual keys.
Ernie Ball offers strings for a variety of other instruments including banjo, mandolin, and steel guitar. Available in multiple gauges, these strings are made with the same high quality as our world famous guitar and bass strings.

The numbers back him up. In the past decade, electric guitar sales have plummeted, from about 1.5 million sold annually to just over 1 million. The two biggest companies, Gibson and Fender, are in debt, and a third, PRS Guitars, had to cut staff and expand production of cheaper guitars. In April, Moody’s downgraded Guitar Center, the largest chain retailer, as it faces $1.6 billion in debt. And at Sweetwater.com, the online retailer, a brand-new, interest-free Fender can be had for as little as $8 a month.
Aaron. He made learning fun, challenging but most of all effective and practical. I learned from the very beginning all the way to intermediate-advanced musical concepts that still help me today. His skill as a jazz musician is profound and very professional, making him a very sought after guitar instructor where I received lessons from him. Aaron has set the foundation for my future career in music, which is something I can never forget or repay him for be it monetary or not, his inspiration to teach and help me get to the level of playing I wished to be at was his best attribute, and I say that’s what really matters. Give him a chance and I’m absolutely sure you will not regret it!”
In 2014, he acquired Philips’s audio division to add headphones, speakers and digital recorders to Gibson’s brand. The idea, Juszkiewicz says, is to recast Gibson from a guitar company to a consumer electronics company.

Can’t believe I missed a month update here on the site – just got my head into the new site update so much that I guess it’s hard to motivate myself here on this ‘old’ one – even thought it’s what y’all see! The new site is cooking along great, there will be loads of new lessons and updated structures and I’m so excited to release it – probably in stages while I keep this one live for a bit.
There are different ways people have tried and failed to learn guitar. In-person instructors and YouTube seem like great options at first, but they usually lead to slow progress and staggered results.
Pickups are transducers attached to a guitar that detect (or “pick up”) string vibrations and convert the mechanical energy of the string into electrical energy. The resultant electrical signal can then be electronically amplified. The most common type of pickup is electromagnetic in design. These contain magnets that are within a coil, or coils, of copper wire. Such pickups are usually placed directly underneath the guitar strings. Electromagnetic pickups work on the same principles and in a similar manner to an electric generator. The vibration of the strings creates a small electric current in the coils surrounding the magnets. This signal current is carried to a guitar amplifier that drives a loudspeaker.

80/20 Bronze (aka Bronze, Brass) – which is 80% copper/20% zinc, and is the most popular option. It has a bright, clean sound, but can lose some of its brilliance after only a few hours of play, as the metal corrodes quickly.
Junewon is not only fascinated by jazz guitar playing but also jazz harmony, arranging, and composing. “Isn’t It Love”, one of his composition has been released by recording of New York City based jazz guitarist, Peter Bernstein in 2012.

If there is a singular question in the guitar industry, it’s no different from what drives Apple. How do you get the product into a teenager’s hands? And once it’s there, how do you get them to fall in love with it?

Electric guitars can have solid, semi-hollow, or hollow bodies; solid bodies produce little sound without amplification. Electromagnetic pickups convert the vibration of the steel strings into signals, which are fed to an amplifier through a patch cable or radio transmitter. The sound is frequently modified by other electronic devices (effects units) or the natural distortion of valves (vacuum tubes) or the pre-amp in the amplifier. There are two main types of magnetic pickups, single- and double-coil (or humbucker), each of which can be passive or active. The electric guitar is used extensively in jazz, blues, R & B, and rock and roll. The first successful magnetic pickup for a guitar was invented by George Beauchamp, and incorporated into the 1931 Ro-Pat-In (later Rickenbacker) “Frying Pan” lap steel; other manufacturers, notably Gibson, soon began to install pickups in archtop models. After World War II the completely solid-body electric was popularized by Gibson in collaboration with Les Paul, and independently by Leo Fender of Fender Music. The lower fretboard action (the height of the strings from the fingerboard), lighter (thinner) strings, and its electrical amplification lend the electric guitar to techniques less frequently used on acoustic guitars. These include tapping, extensive use of legato through pull-offs and hammer-ons (also known as slurs), pinch harmonics, volume swells, and use of a tremolo arm or effects pedals.
This is an app by guitarists for guitarists and whether you’re using it for chords to just get started, or you’re uploading tabs and training your ears, there’s something here for everyone. I cannot recommend this app highly enough.
What worries Gruhn is not simply that profits are down. That happens in business. He’s concerned by the “why” behind the sales decline. When he opened his store 46 years ago, everyone wanted to be a guitar god, inspired by the men who roamed the concert stage, including Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and Jimmy Page. Now those boomers are retiring, downsizing and adjusting to fixed incomes. They’re looking to shed, not add to, their collections, and the younger generation isn’t stepping in to replace them.
“Steven B is a wonderful teacher! He is talented, always enthusiastic, and extremely motivational! Each lesson is designed specifically for our daughter Kelsey’s ability and desired genre of music! Kelsey began guitar and vocal lessons in the Coronado studio and is now taking lessons via Skype since our move to Virginia. The lessons are convenient, affordable, and productive. We are excited to be able to still have Steven B as her guitar and vocal teacher!” – Amy, 5 Stars!

The lower strap button is usually located at the bottom (bridge end) of the body. The upper strap button is usually located near or at the top (neck end) of the body: on the upper body curve, at the tip of the upper “horn” (on a double cutaway), or at the neck joint (heel). Some electrics, especially those with odd-shaped bodies, have one or both strap buttons on the back of the body. Some Steinberger electric guitars, owing to their minimalist and lightweight design, have both strap buttons at the bottom of the body. Rarely, on some acoustics, the upper strap button is located on the headstock. Some acoustic and classical guitars only have a single strap button at the bottom of the body—the other end must be tied onto the headstock, above the nut and below the machine heads.
Steven B has extensive experience in performance. For many years, he performed piano and sang at many fine establishments throughout San Diego and Los Angeles. Later on, he produced a concert tour and performed 50 concerts to 15,000 young people throughout San Diego. The title of his concert tour is Heroes In Our World. Steven B played keyboards, guitar and sang. The concerts honored real-life moms, dads, doctors, nurses, teachers, athletes, entertainers who give back to charity, police officers, firemen, and explorers who make our world a better place. His list of performances continues. He has a record of being the only musician to write a song, produce it, playing the instruments and vocals, along with filming and editing the videos of the performances each week for 52 consecutive weeks. His students benefit because he teaches many aspects in performance and can prepare students for any kind of audition or performance.
First, you need to determine what type of guitar you have – acoustic nylon, acoustic steel string, or electric. You want to be sure to use the correct strings for your particular guitar. Acoustic guitars that require nylon strings, such as classical, flamenco and some folk guitars, generally have lighter tops, or soundboards, with less internal bracing than those found on steel-string acoustics, and stand the risk of serious damage if fitted with steel strings. Steel-string acoustics are designed to withstand the added stress that steel strings exert on the top, bridge, nut and neck, and won’t sound very good with nylon strings, if they even fit. Electric guitar strings must be made of ferromagnetic metals like steel and nickel, so they can interact with the magnetic pickups, while acoustic-electric guitars typically use a different type of pickup which senses vibrations from the bridge, so acoustic strings may just have a steel core wound with a phosphor bronze alloy wrap for bright tone. Guitars with whammy bars might require a few extra steps to keep everything stable, so check your manufacturer’s instructions or look for online videos.
