“My time in being instructed by Steven B on piano was a great, informative experience. Ever since the first lesson, he is a very good teacher that clearly knows what he is doing. Mr. Bruce taught me at my own pace, taking time to help me work on skills, especially small details that help me perform much better. He is a very skilled instructor, teaching me pieces from not only music books that he provides, but also the valuable skill of learning by ear, a skill few other teachers bother to touch on. Steven B has helped on a number of occasions with songs that I am learning on my own and fit time into our lessons to work on them. He is always willing to let the student work on what they like as well as what he gives out. When I once mentioned my liking for jazz, we soon started an in-depth series of lessons into the genre, teaching me much more than I ever knew prior to it. I’ve never felt pressured by my assignments and pieces to bring home, as Steven B knows everyone goes at their own pace and can take anytime from a few days to a few weeks to learn a song. My time with him was a very fun and informative time that I thoroughly enjoyed.” – Michael, 5 Stars!

Hi everyone! I’m a hard-working musician with a background in live performance, songwriting, composition, and home recording. I want to help you perform the music you love, whether you’re playing to your family, your webcam, or a 15,000 seat arena. I have been teaching private music lessons since 2007.
Almost all guitars have frets, which are metal strips (usually nickel alloy or stainless steel) embedded along the fretboard and located at exact points that divide the scale length in accordance with a specific mathematical formula. The exceptions include fretless bass guitars and very rare fretless guitars. Pressing a string against a fret determines the strings’ vibrating length and therefore its resultant pitch. The pitch of each consecutive fret is defined at a half-step interval on the chromatic scale. Standard classical guitars have 19 frets and electric guitars between 21 and 24 frets, although guitars have been made with as many as 27 frets. Frets are laid out to accomplish an equal tempered division of the octave. Each set of twelve frets represents an octave. The twelfth fret divides the scale length exactly into two halves, and the 24th fret position divides one of those halves in half again.
My teaching style is intuitive and fun. I am light on theory with and mostly focus on techniques with students to get you playing as quickly as possible. I have multiple instruments, including several electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and a bass. I also have a drum kit and microphone setup. I even have recording and filming equipment. My lessons cater to your needs and at your own pace.

I teach using a piano for learning vocal exercises and good techniques. I also have an acoustic Guitar that I use to teach my students how to play and learn good finger picking and strumming techniques. Using a computer is always employed, to pull up songs on YouTube, so students can choose what they would like to work on. Karaoke versions are used as well, for further training purposes.

He carved out space for guitar lessons shortly after opening his music store in a strip mall in 2005. The sideline began to grow, and eventually, he founded the McKnight Music Academy. As it grew, from two rooms to eight, from 25 students to 250, McKnight noticed a curious development.
Welcome to my Chords page where you will find just about every chord that is commonly used on the guitar… well you will in a couple of years when I get it completely finished 😉 but all the main ones are here now!
Classical guitars, also known as “Spanish” guitars, are typically strung with nylon strings, plucked with the fingers, played in a seated position and are used to play a diversity of musical styles including classical music. The classical guitar’s wide, flat neck allows the musician to play scales, arpeggios, and certain chord forms more easily and with less adjacent string interference than on other styles of guitar. Flamenco guitars are very similar in construction, but they are associated with a more percussive tone. In Portugal, the same instrument is often used with steel strings particularly in its role within fado music. The guitar is called viola, or violão in Brazil, where it is often used with an extra seventh string by choro musicians to provide extra bass support.
The shape of the neck (from a cross-sectional perspective) can also vary, from a gentle “C” curve to a more pronounced “V” curve. There are many different types of neck profiles available, giving the guitarist many options. Some aspects to consider in a guitar neck may be the overall width of the fretboard, scale (distance between the frets), the neck wood, the type of neck construction (for example, the neck may be glued in or bolted on), and the shape (profile) of the back of the neck. Other types of material used to make guitar necks are graphite (Steinberger guitars), aluminum (Kramer Guitars, Travis Bean and Veleno guitars), or carbon fiber (Modulus Guitars and ThreeGuitars). Double neck electric guitars have two necks, allowing the musician to quickly switch between guitar sounds.

Other factors involved in the manufacturing process will also have an effect on acoustic guitar strings. The Newtone Master Class Double Wound strings are an example of a string with a special manufacturing process involved, which in this case reduces string surface noise.
For four strings, the 5th fret on one string is the same open-note as the next string; for example, a 5th-fret note on the sixth string is the same note as the open fifth string. However, between the second and third strings, an irregularity occurs: The 4th-fret note on the third string is equivalent to the open second string.
Pickups are transducers attached to a guitar that detect (or “pick up”) string vibrations and convert the mechanical energy of the string into electrical energy. The resultant electrical signal can then be electronically amplified. The most common type of pickup is electromagnetic in design. These contain magnets that are within a coil, or coils, of copper wire. Such pickups are usually placed directly underneath the guitar strings. Electromagnetic pickups work on the same principles and in a similar manner to an electric generator. The vibration of the strings creates a small electric current in the coils surrounding the magnets. This signal current is carried to a guitar amplifier that drives a loudspeaker.
Guitar culture was pervasive, whether in movie houses (“Karate Kid” Ralph Macchio outdueling Steve Vai in the 1986 movie “Crossroads”; Michael J. Fox playing a blistering solo in “Back to the Future” and co-starring with Joan Jett in 1987’s rock-band drama “Light of Day”) or on MTV and the older, concert films featuring the Who and Led Zeppelin on seemingly endless repeats.
Steven’s very patient and demonstrates what he wants me to do. As he says, “There are no mistakes,” and we keep right on going. I feel as if my voice has been enriched and made prettier. I’m so glad I found Steven to be my vocal coach.

In the Rockshow program, you are matched with other musicians at similar skill levels. With the help of an experienced band coach, your band will learn a few songs and get tips on performance techniques. After practicing two hours per week in one of our rehearsal rooms, your group will perform a concert on the last Saturday of the month.
As a teacher I require all students to set time aside to practice. For without it, it is only wasting your time, your money and my time. I don’t expect a total dedication to it but I do want to see some effort put into it. A little practice can go a long way and the more you do it, the faster you will progress and the more you will enjoy it. We will first start off with what you want out of music and the level you are at and go from there. Student can bring their own music either thru tabs, music sheet or just by ear but one thing I do expect is a student to learn how to read music notation. We will go thru the regular warm up exercises, material practiced during the week and any new music for the following week. Correct techniques in how to hold your instrument or voice procedures will be addressed. Music theory will also be part of the lesson as well as ear training. At the end of either 3 to 6 months you will have learned the basics of music and will be playing songs for you or someone else to enjoy. I will make it a total relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere but some dedication has to put on the students’ part.
Dominic Castillo, a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, who was a student of Jerry’s as well. After studying under these talented musicians, I went on to pursue my education in music and received my BA in Music from San Jose State University in 2004. I started teaching music privately during my time with Jerry and Dominic and continued to teach during college up until the present, and have taught hundreds of students since. I now live in San Diego where I teach, work as a freelance musician, and play in local funk/jazz/rock group Science Fiction Jazz and gypsy/kickstomp outfit Quel Bordel!
Hope the new year is going great for you, very busy here with some house renovations, trying to take more time out with my daughter while also working harder on the site and keeping myself fit. Right now I feel the balance is cool, but I really need a holiday as I didn’t get one last year and all my mates are off somewhere sunny and making me jealous!
In my lessons I like to start by reviewing what has been learned in the previous lesson, making sure to address any concerns before teaching anything new. To ensure the student is truly learning and maintaining what I teach during our lessons we will do some short musical exercises which apply to that week’s lesson, as well as some musical repertoire that reinforces the new principles taught in that lesson. I feel that correct repetitive practice of these exercises and music will ensure happiness with your progression as a musician. I do my best to learn the musical interests of my students and to personalize each lesson/assignment so that they remain engaged and excited.

The dots on the chord diagram tell you where to put your fingers. If a dot is colored in, it represents the root note of the chord you’re playing. If the dot has a number inside of it, it’s telling you which finger to use when you make that chord shape.

My teaching approach: If you want to learn or further yourself on guitar, bass, drums,or vocals we can get you going to the next level… Our teachers are understanding when it comes to the reality that YOU are drawn to learn music that reflects the styles that YOU prefer..Learning an instrument needs to be looked at on an individual, personal basis…In the end,we want YOU to be satisfied and we can get you there..and we as music teachers, adjust the way we teach, what we teach, and how we teach to the desires and goals of “you” the student…whether you like The Beatles,Led Zeppelin,Avenged Sevenf
This is an app by guitarists for guitarists and whether you’re using it for chords to just get started, or you’re uploading tabs and training your ears, there’s something here for everyone. I cannot recommend this app highly enough.
Electric guitars and bass guitars have to be used with a guitar amplifier and loudspeaker or a bass amplifier and speaker, respectively, in order to make enough sound to be heard by the performer and audience. Electric guitars and bass guitars almost always use magnetic pickups, which generate an electric signal when the musician plucks, strums or otherwise plays the instrument. The amplifier and speaker strengthen this signal using a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Acoustic guitars that are equipped with a piezoelectric pickup or microphone can also be plugged into an instrument amplifier, acoustic guitar amp or PA system to make them louder. With electric guitar and bass, the amplifier and speaker are not just used to make the instrument louder; by adjusting the equalizer controls, the preamplifier, and any onboard effects units (reverb, distortion/overdrive, etc.) the player can also modify the tone (aka timbre or “colour”) and sound of the instrument. Acoustic guitar players can also use the amp to change the sound of their instrument, but in general, acoustic guitar amps are used to make the natural acoustic sound of the instrument louder without changing its sound that much.
Guitar Chords are a group of at least 3 notes played together, this means three different notes, i.e. notes with 3 different pitches. If, for example, you select an E major chord on the guitar chord generator on this page, you can see the 3 notes E, B and G# (Ab) make up this chord. Some notes can be expressed as either sharp or flat (enharmonic spelling), the notes sound just the same but the naming of them is decided by which key the song is in. You can find out more about this in our music theory section.
Another part of chord diagrams to understand is if ‘X’ appears above the nut at all. If you see an ‘X’ above a string, that means that you won’t play that string at all. For A minor 7, you’ll leave the E string out when you strum.
The Top 10 Solo Guitar Records Of 2016 : All Songs Considered Across ambient, jazz, psychedelic and American Primitive styles, this year proved that the possibilities of the guitar continue to flourish.
These are the starting point for barre chords, learning these first will make the transition to full barre grips a load easier! They again are part of Beginners Course… The cool thing is that the shape remains the same, you just have to move them around! Click on the chord shapes to get the full lesson and learn how to use the root notes and all that! It’s real important…
Being that I am one of the younger guitar teachers out there, I am able to better relate to younger students on a more personal level and possess an energetic teaching style and willingness to better myself as a teacher and musician just as much as my student.
