The acoustic bass guitar is a bass instrument with a hollow wooden body similar to, though usually somewhat larger than, that of a 6-string acoustic guitar. Like the traditional electric bass guitar and the double bass, the acoustic bass guitar commonly has four strings, which are normally tuned E-A-D-G, an octave below the lowest four strings of the 6-string guitar, which is the same tuning pitch as an electric bass guitar. It can, more rarely, be found with 5 or 6 strings, which provides a wider range of notes to be played with less movement up and down the neck.

Left-handed players sometimes choose an opposite-handed (mirror) instrument, although some play in a standard-handed manner, others play a standard-handed guitar reversed, and still others (for example Jimi Hendrix) played a standard-handed guitar strung in reverse. This last configuration differs from a true opposite handed guitar in that the saddle is normally angled in such a way that the bass strings are slightly longer than the treble strings to improve intonation. Reversing the strings, therefore, reverses the relative orientation of the saddle, adversely affecting intonation, although in Hendrix’s case, this is believed to have been an important element in his unique sound.
For the second note of the A minor 7 chord, place your second finger on the second fret of the D string. This is the second of the two notes you need to fret to play this chord. Make sure you’re on the tip of your finger and right behind the fret. Now that you have both notes in place, strum the top five strings, remembering to leave the low E string out.
Another tip to help you memorize chords faster is to practice them several times a day. If you can, practice your chords four or five times a day, for five minutes at a time. The more times in one day you can practice the chords, the faster you’ll learn them and the sooner your hands will remember them.
The ratio of the spacing of two consecutive frets is 2 12 {\displaystyle {\sqrt[{12}]{2}}} (twelfth root of two). In practice, luthiers determine fret positions using the constant 17.817—an approximation to 1/(1-1/ 2 12 {\displaystyle {\sqrt[{12}]{2}}} ). If the nth fret is a distance x from the bridge, then the distance from the (n+1)th fret to the bridge is x-(x/17.817).[13] Frets are available in several different gauges and can be fitted according to player preference. Among these are “jumbo” frets, which have much thicker gauge, allowing for use of a slight vibrato technique from pushing the string down harder and softer. “Scalloped” fretboards, where the wood of the fretboard itself is “scooped out” between the frets, allow a dramatic vibrato effect. Fine frets, much flatter, allow a very low string-action, but require that other conditions, such as curvature of the neck, be well-maintained to prevent buzz.
Chords are divided into two groups – normal and split. Choose from the list a chord interesting you and press button GET. And also you can select different variations of chords on a guitar fingerboard.

Known mostly for his work in Tortoise and Isotope 217, Jeff Parker struck out on his own in 2016 with the dusty, soul-jazz focused The New Breed and Slight Freedom, surprisingly his first solo guitar effort. The latter is quiet in its resolve, simple in its approach — everything’s recorded live, using a Boomerang Phrase Sampler to layer loops, with light field recordings of street noise simultaneously filling up and receding from the album’s airy space.

The original purpose of the resonator was to produce a very loud sound; this purpose has been largely superseded by electrical amplification, but the resonator guitar is still played because of its distinctive tone. Resonator guitars may have either one or three resonator cones. The method of transmitting sound resonance to the cone is either a “biscuit” bridge, made of a small piece of hardwood at the vertex of the cone (Nationals), or a “spider” bridge, made of metal and mounted around the rim of the (inverted) cone (Dobros). Three-cone resonators always use a specialized metal bridge. The type of resonator guitar with a neck with a square cross-section—called “square neck” or “Hawaiian”—is usually played face up, on the lap of the seated player, and often with a metal or glass slide. The round neck resonator guitars are normally played in the same fashion as other guitars, although slides are also often used, especially in blues.
Piezoelectric, or piezo, pickups represent another class of pickup. These employ piezoelectricity to generate the musical signal and are popular in hybrid electro-acoustic guitars. A crystal is located under each string, usually in the saddle. When the string vibrates, the shape of the crystal is distorted, and the stresses associated with this change produce tiny voltages across the crystal that can be amplified and manipulated.
Many of you know San Diego for its beautiful beaches, great weather, Sea World and the zoo, but did you know that San Diego is home to a great many guitarists? As a new resident of San Diego, I recently realized the amount of talent present in this great city. Wherever you go, you can always hear the unmistakable sound of the guitar, whether it’s the strumming of an acoustic on the beaches of La Jolla, some blues licks played on a Les Paul in a downtown club, or the plucking of a classical in the streets of North Park, there’s always something exciting to hear from this great instrument. Many great guitarists, local and non-local, perform and have honed their skills in San Diego and the surrounding areas. Local jazz legend Peter Sprague can be caught playing almost nightly, and Carlos Santana learned to play on the streets of nearby Tijuana. Bands such as Blink 182, Switchfoot, and P.O.D. have all called San Diego home, and local talent such as Intransit Audio, Foreign Film, and Science Fiction are making their names and building followings in the bustling local music scene.

I believe that music is rooted in all human beings and cultures in a reach and vast variety of forms. Music unifies and engages thinking and feeling in a direct and immediate way. Music influences individuals simultaneously on different levels of consciousness and form an important device for learning, recreation, arranging of conscious and unconscious impressions and at the same time for characterizing and conveying ideas and thoughts. This as a point of departure characterizes my teaching philosophy, which strives to create a climate in which my students can experience continuous musical, intellectual, and emotional growth.

When John Fahey recorded The New Possibility in 1968 to make a few bucks off Christmas sales every year, his album title turned out to be emblematic of the solo guitar’s potential. The music grows decades later, rung out in steel vibration and wrung out from tradition. In 2016, there was an incredible bounty of guitar music across Americana, jazz, ambient, psychedelic, experimental music and what Fahey labeled American Primitive.
As a beginner, we started with a few basic cords so I could start playing real songs within my first week. He is attentive and flexible to what you are looking to learn, and I very much appreciate his patience and accommodating nature.
All three principal types of resonator guitars were invented by the Slovak-American John Dopyera (1893–1988) for the National and Dobro (Dopyera Brothers) companies. Similar to the flat top guitar in appearance, but with a body that may be made of brass, nickel-silver, or steel as well as wood, the sound of the resonator guitar is produced by one or more aluminum resonator cones mounted in the middle of the top. The physical principle of the guitar is therefore similar to the loudspeaker.
