electric guitar bridge buzz | what are some good electric guitar brands

In the most commercially available and consumed pop and rock genres, electric guitars tend to dominate their acoustic cousins in both the recording studio and live venues, especially in the “harder” genres such as heavy metal and hard rock. However the acoustic guitar remains a popular choice in country, western and especially bluegrass music, and it is widely used in folk music. Even metal and hard rock guitarists play acoustic guitars for some ballads and for MTV unplugged acoustic performances.
No doubt. I am glad that there is someone who can help me tell my up and coming 12 year guiitarist, who thinks privately that he should be on the list himself, that Axel Rose and Van Halen, while quite good in their own right, do not hold a candle to the Man.
One of the first solid-body guitars was invented by Les Paul. Gibson did not present their Gibson Les Paul guitar prototypes to the public, as they did not believe the solid-body style would catch on. Another early solid-body Spanish style guitar, resembling what would become Gibson’s Les Paul guitar a decade later, was developed in 1941 by O.W. Appleton, of Nogales, Arizona.[25] Appleton made contact with both Gibson and Fender but was unable to sell the idea behind his “App” guitar to either company.[26] In 1946, Merle Travis commissioned steel guitar builder Paul Bigsby to build him a solid-body Spanish-style electric.[27] Bigsby delivered the guitar in 1948. The first mass-produced solid-body guitar was Fender Esquire and Fender Broadcaster (later to become the Fender Telecaster), first made in 1948, five years after Les Paul made his prototype. The Gibson Les Paul appeared soon after to compete with the Broadcaster.[28] Another notable solid-body design is the Fender Stratocaster, which was introduced in 1954 and became extremely popular among musicians in the 1960s and 1970s for its wide tonal capabilities and more comfortable ergonomics than other models.
-have any of you ever heard of chet atkins. he could play anything the guys you mention but, they could not or can,t play any thing he played-hell non-finger style players you have to go with nokie edwards from the ventures. you guys are obviously rock only players and listen to only them only -do yourselves a favor and get his albums-mister guitar and workshop-they show just how good he was and then make a comment here
This is the definitive source for all collectors of vintage American fretted instruments. In fact, the Gibson Customer Service department frequently turns to Gruhn’s Guide when faced with questions about a guitar’s authenticity or background.
this guy that wrote this is clueless i bet he dont even know how to play a note on the guitar, how could eddie van halen not be on this list.he should be number one, there will never be another guitar player that set the world on fire like the first van halen album, john mayer the guy from the chilli peppers you have to be joking or you are deaf
Modulation, in general electronics, means the altering of signal strength. In audio devices, modulation is a control feature that varies the strength of some effect over time to alter tonal properties. Some modulation effects mix (“modulate”) an instrument’s audio signal with a signal generated by the effect called a carrier wave.[73] Other modulation effects split an instrument’s audio signal in two, altering one portion of the signal and mixing it with the unaltered portion.[74]
The history of Electric Guitars is summarized by Guitar World magazine, and the earliest electric guitar on their top 10 list is the Ro-Pat-In Electro A-25 “Frying Pan” (1932) described as ‘The first-fully functioning solid-body electric guitar to be manufactured and sold'[29]. The most recent electric guitar on this list is the Ibanez Jem (1987) which featured ’24 frets’, ‘an impossibly thin neck’ and was ‘designed to be the ultimate shredder machine’. Numerous other important electric guitars are on the list including Gibson ES-150 (1936), Fender Telecaster (1951), Gibson Les Paul (1952), Gretsch 6128 Duo Jet (1953), Fender Stratocaster (1954), Rickenbacker 360/12 (1964), Van Halen Frankenstein (1975), Paul Reed Smith Custom (1985) many of these guitars were ‘successors’ to earlier designs [30]. Electric Guitar designs eventually became culturally important and visually iconic, with various model companies selling miniature model versions [31] [32] of particularly famous electric guitars, for example the Gibson SG used by Angus Young from the group AC/DC.
I hope the list is somewhat correct on peoples lists although it is just an opinion! and just a small thought and insight on angus young he might not make the top 50 for me he plays just a few chords and everything sounds the same, he is with a unique voice and a band who was made by bon scot that put ac/dc on the map!! I know of no really good guitar player that names angus young as their inspiration or was influenced by angus young it is just that his work was too simple!!
We are your new best friend when it comes to guitars, gear, lessons and everything else that goes with the greatest musical instrument in the world! Choosing a guitar and learning how to play can be overwhelming.
This book takes an agressive approach to learning, with each “week” adding a lot of new concepts. I know a little bit about music, but I’m new to the guitar. For me, I like it a lot. People who don’t play another instrument might find it more intimidating, I’m not sure. But then, no one is forcing you to finish a week’s lessons in an actual week.

T1 Dave Mustaine( created the genre of thrash metal with out his work he started with metallica and carries on in megadeth there would not be 3/4 of the metal bands there are today) and Jimi Hendrix(who is clearly great he brought a whole to idea about how to play a guitar and created techniques never used before)
“The electric guitar was new and fascinatingly exciting in a period before Jimi and immediately after,” the former Beatle says wistfully in a recent interview. “So you got loads of great players emulating guys like B.B. King and Buddy Guy, and you had a few generations there.”
This is one of the easier chords to play, once you have your calluses built up. You can play all the strings at once. Crank up a Marshall stack to 11 with this chord, hit it hard, and you’ll feel the beginnings of being a rock hero!
The four-string guitar is better known as the tenor guitar. One of its best-known players was Tiny Grimes, who played on 52nd Street with the beboppers and played a major role in the Prestige Blues Swingers. Multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis (musician) of Dirty Three and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is a contemporary player who includes a tenor guitar in his repertoire.
One of the most important attributes of boost pedals is their transparency. In other words, they need to able to boost the signal without changing the signal itself. As easy as it sounds, achieving good transparency is pretty hard and not many pedals are capable of doing so. With that said, a good booster pedal is a pretty powerful tool in the right hands.
Try to get your 1st finger to lay softly on strings 3, 2 and 1. You don’t want those notes to sound; you just want to mute the strings. This is very important as it will sound really bad if you let them ring out.

Another early analog delay was the Binson Echorec, this unit recorded your guitar signal onto a magnetic disk much like a hard drive does. This unit was favored by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Analog delay pedals made their debut in the 70’s with the use of what was called bucket brigade chips. These chips move the signal down a line like the way an old bucket brigade would pass buckets of water down a line to put out a fire. The most famous of these pedals is the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man.

Boost pedals are essentially an extension of your guitar’s volume knob. Their main purpose is to give you additional gain to work with. This extra gain can be used to accentuate your solo sections, give you more girth in your clean channel, or even push your tubes into a slight overdrive. A great example of a booster pedal is the legendary Electro-Harmonix LPB-1.

  1. A rackmount effects unit may contain an electronic circuit nearly identical to a stompbox-based effect, but it is mounted in a standard 19″ equipment rack, which is usually mounted in a road case that is designed to protect the equipment during transport. More recently, as signal-processing technology continuously becomes more feature-dense, rack-mount effects units frequently contain several types of effects. They are typically controlled by knobs or switches on the front panel, and often by a MIDI digital control interface.
Hendrix was known for a lot of things. The beautiful chord embellishments on Little Wing, the grit of the solo in Voodoo Child screaming off of his strat pickups, his cover of the Dylan song All Along The Watchtower, and the backwards solo in Castles Made of Sand, but known as a great innovative guitar player over and over again. His short but explosive career influenced numerous artists for many years past his death and continues to influence musicians today. To make such a difference in such a short amount of time truly earns Jimi a spot as number two. But…then you may ask, “Who is deserving of number one?!”
your right brian i been a acdc freak since u all been out in the early n mid 70s the greast band of all time. and i seen acdc 37 times through out the united states. i love my memories with the band and still watch and listen to the cds and dvds of the band. brian johnson is the best thing that happen to acdc since bond scott death. keep rockin guys i love u with a passion. mark
A moveable chord, unlike an open-position chord, does not include open strings. If you can move, without rearranging your fingers, from position to position on the neck of the guitar, it’s a moveable chord.
The history of signal modification isn’t just one of pleasing the ear through unconventional methods. It works both ways: Guitar effects have modified their users, just as much as their users and engineers have modified their sound. New effects can change a guitarist’s playing ability completely, concealing their technique as well as embellishing it. U2’s The Edge, for example, is known for his restraint of technique by embedding different rhythms within delay settings.
I have been trying to learn guitar for forever- but the sheer boredom of most teaching styles has turned me off- this is straight to the point- no “hot cross buns”- and perfect for an ADD brain like mine to scim and take what information I need to build a foundation and learn my own way.
Try and keep your middle finger relaxed just hanging out where it feels good (shown in the top photo). Don’t try and pull it down to the thin strings; sometimes I do that but only when trying to show the chords in lessons
Learn the C chord. The first chord we will cover is a C chord—one of the most basic chords in music. Before we do, let’s break down just what that means. A proper chord, whether played on a piano, a guitar, or sung by well-trained mice, is simply three or more notes sounded together. (Two notes is called a “diad,” and while musically useful, is not a chord.) Chords can also contain far more than three notes, but that’s well beyond the scope of this article. This is what a C chord looks like on the guitar:
Zappa – would have liked to hear him play with Hendrix – as a compliment not competition. Zappa, a classically trained musician, playing in a rock and roll world, had such depth of experience from without – as much as Hendrix had from within – too bad the intensity killed him; Zappa tamed it and had fun with it. Hendrix was driven by it. Great guitarist? Who cares! My picks are artists, something a machine, human or otherwise can not approach let alone touch, and that is what it is all about, touching the soul through music. One trick ponies are a dime a dozen – some of them are at the right place at the right time and their ego does the rest. Who will be remembered a hundred years from now – it will not be the “best”.

  2. He has surely got to be one of the greatest electric guitar players ever. He has everything. Some people just think he is fast, but it is his precision and technique. I have gotta be honest, Hendrix should be at the top.
By the turn of the twentieth century, it only made sense that the popularity of the guitar would soon be combined with the onset of electronics. Over the past 75 years, the electric guitar has established itself as one of the most iconic, unforgettable instruments in the world. From jazz and big band to rock ‘n’ roll and funk, popular music would be drastically different today had it not been for the electric guitar.
Why is Jimmy page is #4 he should be #1, he is the rock God of all time. All of the album’s of led zeppelin is the best, he worked hard on all of the best guitar solos in like over 30+ best songs. Jimmy Page #1 for life

  3. Tell me this – to be a great guitarist don’t you have to have played music people want to hear? Alvin Lee may not have known the difference between the phrygian mode and refrigerator mold but he could play circles around most of these guys. So while some folks may be technically better than, say, David Gilmour who would you rather hear?

Of course the most talented and creative guitarist in the World. Guitarists like Slash can give stunts but cannot be such creative like Gilmour. I don’t know why people cannot understand and like silly stunts rather than real talent. A layman can listen to the guitar solos of Echoes, Dogs, Coming BAck to Life, Comfortably Numb, Time… Of Pink Floyd and they will easily know his vast talent. Gilmour must be ranked higher.

  4. I want to learn jazz guitar, and I’m an absolute beginner. Is there a beginner book for jazz guitar? Every jazz guitar book I’ve found already assumes I’m an intermediate-level player or better. Thank you.
why is it only guitrists that are pre 2000 getting a mention. i love music from every decade but one of the best i have ever seen is matt bellamy from muse he has took guitar playing to a completly different level. and i feel this guy deserves a mention..
Acoustic simulator pedals simply turn your electric guitar sound into that of an acoustic guitar. This can be really useful if you want to play a song played on an acoustic guitar, but don’t actually own one.
Compressors also have the ability to increase the sustain of notes beyond sounds that are normally usable on the instrument; yet another reason the effect is a popular tool in the soloist’s arsenal. The tiniest signal can be normalized to the same amplitude of a fierce pick attack, and a trailing note will resonate at the exact same volume until the string stops inducing a signal on the pickup.
Chords are the building blocks of music and it’s important to know them inside out. Cost free guitar apps like Uberchord app (get a free download here) are great for practicing and learning in a fun and easy way, but I’ll also get into some important details in this article to help take your learning to the next level.
At least Syn is in the Top ten.. It proves that some people have heard his solos and watched his live performances..! I Never say that he is the Greatest Electric guitarist.. Because Its all About Generation.. Slash, Jimi, Kirk, Randy R.. Etc They were the best in that Generation.. MASTERS..
Eric Clapton invented rock guitar as we know it. Eddie Van Halen took it to another level. Tony Iommi defined heavy metal, despite losing his fingertips in an accident. Duane Allman showed us how to play rock and roll slide guitar. Yngwie Malmsteen combined blinding speed and classical theory for a potent combination.

  5. 7 Yngwie Malmsteen Yngwie Johan Malmsteen is a Swedish guitarist, songwriter and bandleader who was born on June 30th, 1963, in Stockholm, Sweden. He was known for his neoclassical metal playing style back in the 1980s.

Learn the key of A. You’re already two thirds of the way there! The key of A consists of A in the first position (I), D in the fourth position (IV), and our old powerhouse friend E in the dominant fifth position (V). Here’s how to play the D chord:
The solid-body electric guitar is made of solid wood, without functionally resonating air spaces. The first solid-body Spanish standard guitar was offered by Vivi-Tone no later than 1934. This model featured a guitar-shaped body of a single sheet of plywood affixed to a wood frame. Another early, substantially solid Spanish electric guitar, called the Electro Spanish, was marketed by the Rickenbacker guitar company in 1935 and made of Bakelite. By 1936, the Slingerland company introduced a wooden solid-body electric model, the Slingerland Songster 401 (and a lap steel counterpart, the Songster 400).
The biggest issue when starting out is not to get any bad habits with picking or hand/finger positioning. I’d highly recommend to find a teacher who – not necessarily on a periodical basis – would take a closer look at your progress and technique and make adjustments when needed. There are lots of bad habits that you can get and I’d rather spend some money on lessons than weeks of lifetime to undo those.
3 Eddie Van Halen Edward Lodewijk “Eddie” Van Halen is a Dutch-American musician, songwriter and producer. He is best known as the lead guitarist, occasional keyboardist and co-founder of the hard rock band Van Halen.
Bass effects are electronic effects units that are designed for use with the low pitches created by an electric bass or for an upright bass used with a bass amp or PA system. Two examples of bass effects are fuzz bass and bass chorus. Some bass amplifiers have built-in effects, such as overdrive or chorus. Upright bassists in jazz, folk, blues and similar genres may use a bass preamplifier, a small electronic device that matches the impedance between the piezoelectric pickup and the amp or PA system. Bass preamps also allow for the gain of the signal to be boosted or cut. Some models also offer equalization controls, a compressor, and a DI box connection.

In the 1980s, digital rackmount units began replacing stompboxes as the effects format of choice. Often musicians would record “dry”, unaltered tracks in the studio and effects would be added in post-production. The success of Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind helped to re-ignite interest in stompboxes. Some grunge guitarists would chain several fuzz pedals together and plug them into a tube amplifier.[50] Throughout the 1990s, musicians committed to a “lo-fi” aesthetic such as J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., Stephen Malkmus of Pavement and Robert Pollard of Guided by Voices continued to use analog effects pedals.[51]

Instruments with built-in effects include Hammond organs, electronic organs, electronic pianos and digital synthesizers.[20] Built-in effects for keyboard typically include reverb, chorus and, for Hammond organ, vibrato. Many “clonewheel organs” include an overdrive effect. Occasionally, acoustic-electric and electric guitars will have built-in effects, such as a preamp or equalizer.[21][22]
The earliest boost pedals used a germanium transistor and was often in the form of a treble booster. The most famous treble booster is the Dallas Rangemaster which is rumored to have been used by Eric Clapton on the Bluesbreakers record, often referred to as the Beano record or Beano tone. (This is because Clapton is reading a Beano comic on the record cover). At the time Eric was using a Marshall JTM45 2×12 combo (commonly referred to as the Bluesbreaker because of this recording) and a Les Paul and man does it sound good. Allegedly he was using the Rangemaster to push the front end of the amp into more distortion. This has never been confirmed to my knowledge but is the source of much Internet speculation. But I have played an old Bluesbreaker amp with a Les Paul and it sounded pretty darn close.
