“Steven B is a wonderful teacher! He is talented, always enthusiastic, and extremely motivational! Each lesson is designed specifically for our daughter Kelsey’s ability and desired genre of music! Kelsey began guitar and vocal lessons in the Coronado studio and is now taking lessons via Skype since our move to Virginia. The lessons are convenient, affordable, and productive. We are excited to be able to still have Steven B as her guitar and vocal teacher!” – Amy, 5 Stars!
Renaissance and Baroque guitars are the ancestors of the modern classical and flamenco guitar. They are substantially smaller, more delicate in construction, and generate less volume. The strings are paired in courses as in a modern 12-string guitar, but they only have four or five courses of strings rather than six single strings normally used now. They were more often used as rhythm instruments in ensembles than as solo instruments, and can often be seen in that role in early music performances. (Gaspar Sanz’s Instrucción de Música sobre la Guitarra Española of 1674 contains his whole output for the solo guitar.) Renaissance and Baroque guitars are easily distinguished, because the Renaissance guitar is very plain and the Baroque guitar is very ornate, with ivory or wood inlays all over the neck and body, and a paper-cutout inverted “wedding cake” inside the hole.
As a music instructor and musicologist I demonstrate the characteristics of professional and passionate for everything related to my teaching. I am passionate; for I know the more I teach the more I learn
Many of you know San Diego for its beautiful beaches, great weather, Sea World and the zoo, but did you know that San Diego is home to a great many guitarists? As a new resident of San Diego, I recently realized the amount of talent present in this great city. Wherever you go, you can always hear the unmistakable sound of the guitar, whether it’s the strumming of an acoustic on the beaches of La Jolla, some blues licks played on a Les Paul in a downtown club, or the plucking of a classical in the streets of North Park, there’s always something exciting to hear from this great instrument. Many great guitarists, local and non-local, perform and have honed their skills in San Diego and the surrounding areas. Local jazz legend Peter Sprague can be caught playing almost nightly, and Carlos Santana learned to play on the streets of nearby Tijuana. Bands such as Blink 182, Switchfoot, and P.O.D. have all called San Diego home, and local talent such as Intransit Audio, Foreign Film, and Science Fiction are making their names and building followings in the bustling local music scene.
The bass guitar (also called an “electric bass”, or simply a “bass”) is similar in appearance and construction to an electric guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and four to six strings. The four-string bass, by far the most common, is usually tuned the same as the double bass, which corresponds to pitches one octave lower than the four lowest pitched strings of a guitar (E, A, D, and G). (The bass guitar is a transposing instrument, as it is notated in bass clef an octave higher than it sounds (as is the double bass) to avoid excessive ledger lines.[jargon]) Like the electric guitar, the bass guitar has pickups and it is plugged into an amplifier and speaker for live performances.
Meanwhile, the five-course baroque guitar, which was documented in Spain from the middle of the 16th century, enjoyed popularity, especially in Spain, Italy and France from the late 16th century to the mid-18th century.[B][C] In Portugal, the word viola referred to the guitar, as guitarra meant the “Portuguese guitar”, a variety of cittern.
I am a very easy going, friendly individual who believes that learning music is built upon a strong relationship between teacher and student. This relationship involves good communication, honesty, open mindedness, and most importantly the desire to LEARN and have FUN. I approach teaching music by knowing and understanding the student’s musical goals, and teaching fundamentals, theory, and technique through the style(s) of music that the student wants to learn. For beginners, I tend to teach basic techniques and chords through simple songs to get the student playing music as quickly as possible.
Daniel very much enjoyed his first session. Luis made him feel at ease and they immediately started working on a song he can play quickly. Luis took pains in finding out Daniel’s music tastes for future lessons.
When McKnight launched a video series on YouTube, he did an episode called “Is Taylor Swift the next Eddie Van Halen?” He wasn’t talking about technique. He was talking about inspiring younger players. The video series, in the end, grew faster than guitar sales or lessons. Earlier this year, McKnight shut down his store.

As a sideman, he played and recorded many times in Boston, Lansing as well as South Korea. When MSU Spartan Jazz Trombone Group was a winner of ITA, Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition in 2014 he was the rhythm section.
Steven’s very patient and demonstrates what he wants me to do. As he says, “There are no mistakes,” and we keep right on going. I feel as if my voice has been enriched and made prettier. I’m so glad I found Steven to be my vocal coach.
My teaching approach: I think that the best way to become good at something is to understand the theory underlying it. Besides teaching technique, we will also study music theory. I will not just be using guitar to explain it either; we will use keyboard, wind instruments, and other stringed instruments as well to develop a deeper understanding of what goes on when you play. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher’s studio or the student’s home Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: I live and teach in Lafayette and the surrounding cities. Guitar Techniques: Guidance
The next step is to figure out what gauge, or thickness of string is best suited to your playing ability and style. Thinner gauges are easier to fret and bend, and may be better suited for beginners, until callouses build up on the fingertips. Heavier strings tend to produce greater volume and fuller tone. Nylon strings are typically categorized as light, medium or heavy tension. Steel strings for both electric and acoustic guitars are categorized by the gauge, or thickness of the lightest string, the high E string, measured in thousandths of an inch, with .09 being a common size for an electric set. A set of electric strings may be labeled .09-.042 – this is the gauge of the lightest and heaviest string in the set. Acoustic sets are a little thicker, so a typical medium-gauge set might be .012-.054.
I think guitar music can be very relaxing to listen to. With this music, I hope I manage to make a soothing and dreamy atmosphere that can work as background music when you’re relaxing. Be sure to let me know what you think about this guitar music in the comment section below!
This is an app by guitarists for guitarists and whether you’re using it for chords to just get started, or you’re uploading tabs and training your ears, there’s something here for everyone. I cannot recommend this app highly enough.
I have a 6 lesson series on The CAGED system, starts with a video and is then text and illustrations (it’s also the last part of Practical Music Theory) and at this stage you really need to understand what it is and how it works and WHY it’s so important!
Living Colour’s Vernon Reid agrees but also speaks to a larger shift. He remembers being inspired when he heard Santana on the radio. “There was a culture of guitar playing, and music was central,” adds Reid, 58. “A record would come out and you would hear about that record, and you would make the journey. There was a certain investment in time and resources.”
My teaching approach: I have been teaching for many years and it is extremely rewarding to witness my students progress towards mastery of the guitar. Not every professional guitarist is capable of teaching. It requires the ability to take complex subjects and break them down into bite size pieces. Coupled with my love of teaching is the realization that it is my calling. My influences are: Hendrix, Page, SRV, BB, Buddy Guy, EVH, Vai, Batio, Django, Jobim My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher’s studio Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: Monday thru Thursday

Now we’re going to learn the C major chord, which is a great chord to see if you are coming down on the tips of your fingers or not. Tweaking your fretting hand posture just a little makes a big difference in the sound of the chord.
“Everything we do is about music,” Juszkiewicz says. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s the making of music with instruments or the listening of music with a player. To me, we’re a music company. That’s what I want to be. And I want to be number one. And, you know, nobody else seems to be applying for the job right now.”
For finger posture, you want to come down right on the very tip of your finger. If I don’t come down on the tip of my finger, my finger will brush against the high E string and accidentally mute it. Staying on the tips of your fingers ensures that you’re not muting any of the surrounding strings.
The convention couldn’t sound less rock-and-roll — the National Association of Music Merchants Show. But when the doors open at the Anaheim Convention Center, people stream in to scour rows of Fenders, Les Pauls and the oddball, custom-built creations such as the 5-foot-4-inch mermaid guitar crafted of 15 kinds of wood.

I’ve been taking lessons with remy for the past 2 months and my ability has massively increased. Not only is remy a great guitar player but his patience makes him an awesome teacher. His understanding of music is fantastic and he is very good at breaking songs apart to make it easy for the student to learn. As well as teaching he also uses his own time to find songs for me to practice that would improve my
The top, back and ribs of an acoustic guitar body are very thin (1–2 mm), so a flexible piece of wood called lining is glued into the corners where the rib meets the top and back. This interior reinforcement provides 5 to 20 mm of solid gluing area for these corner joints. Solid linings are often used in classical guitars, while kerfed lining is most often found in steel string acoustics. Kerfed lining is also called kerfing because it is scored, or “kerfed”(incompletely sawn through), to allow it to bend with the shape of the rib). During final construction, a small section of the outside corners is carved or routed out and filled with binding material on the outside corners and decorative strips of material next to the binding, which are called purfling. This binding serves to seal off the end grain of the top and back. Purfling can also appear on the back of an acoustic guitar, marking the edge joints of the two or three sections of the back. Binding and purfling materials are generally made of either wood or plastic.

Pickups are transducers attached to a guitar that detect (or “pick up”) string vibrations and convert the mechanical energy of the string into electrical energy. The resultant electrical signal can then be electronically amplified. The most common type of pickup is electromagnetic in design. These contain magnets that are within a coil, or coils, of copper wire. Such pickups are usually placed directly underneath the guitar strings. Electromagnetic pickups work on the same principles and in a similar manner to an electric generator. The vibration of the strings creates a small electric current in the coils surrounding the magnets. This signal current is carried to a guitar amplifier that drives a loudspeaker.
I have been playing guitar for over 20 years and have been teaching nearly as long. I have a passion for music and for sharing it with others. I grew up playing rock and funk and studied jazz and classical guitar in college. Since graduating, I have worked as a guitarist playing in bands, doing recording sessions, composing, and teaching. Thumb picks and finger picks that attach to the finger tips are sometimes employed in finger-picking styles on steel strings. These allow the fingers and thumb to operate independently, whereas a flat pick requires the thumb and one or two fingers to manipulate.
I provide my own instrument. I can also provide music stand, small amplifier if needed and music material for the first few lesson until student provides for him/her self. Student must have own instrument.
Electric guitars and bass guitars have to be used with a guitar amplifier and loudspeaker or a bass amplifier and speaker, respectively, in order to make enough sound to be heard by the performer and audience. Electric guitars and bass guitars almost always use magnetic pickups, which generate an electric signal when the musician plucks, strums or otherwise plays the instrument. The amplifier and speaker strengthen this signal using a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Acoustic guitars that are equipped with a piezoelectric pickup or microphone can also be plugged into an instrument amplifier, acoustic guitar amp or PA system to make them louder. With electric guitar and bass, the amplifier and speaker are not just used to make the instrument louder; by adjusting the equalizer controls, the preamplifier, and any onboard effects units (reverb, distortion/overdrive, etc.) the player can also modify the tone (aka timbre or “colour”) and sound of the instrument. Acoustic guitar players can also use the amp to change the sound of their instrument, but in general, acoustic guitar amps are used to make the natural acoustic sound of the instrument louder without changing its sound that much.
Many influences are cited as antecedents to the modern guitar. Although the development of the earliest “guitars” is lost in the history of medieval Spain, two instruments are commonly cited as their most influential predecessors, the European lute and its cousin, the four-string oud; the latter was brought to Iberia by the Moors in the 8th century.
Chord Tip: Make sure you are relaxed. Shake out any excess tension so you can avoid injuries. Stay relaxed as you play these chords. The only pain you may feel is in your fingertips as your calluses build up. After about a month of playing regularly, that pain will go away.

To make the C major chord, first make the A minor 7 shape, and then stretch your third finger to the third fret of the A string. You’ll notice on the chord diagram that this note is colored in, which means it is a root note for the C major chord, making it a C note.

Juszkiewicz says that one day, the self-tuning guitars will be recognized as a great innovation, comparing them with the advent of the television remote control. He also believes in the Philips purchase. Eventually, he says, the acquisition will be recognized as the right decision.

Francis is an incredibly personable, professional, and informative instructor. He helped me hone my speaking voice for performing spoken word poetry, and offered really tailored, constructive feedback along the way. I’m so glad that I committed to taking speaking lessons. The entire process has been positive.
Patrick is a great teacher, and very patient. I’ve never learned how to sing or read music before, and he teaches at a pace that’s good for me. I highly recommend him whether you’re an adult or you’re considering enrolling your child.
Hybrids of acoustic and electric guitars are also common. There are also more exotic varieties, such as guitars with two, three, or rarely four necks, all manner of alternate string arrangements, fretless fingerboards (used almost exclusively on bass guitars, meant to emulate the sound of a stand-up bass), 5.1 surround guitar, and such.
